Interesting ways to Package your own Gifts

At Pretty Wrap Studio, we understand that it is not always possible to get your gifts packaged professionally. And that you simply cannot give someone a fabulous gift using ordinary, store-bought wrapping paper. You can easily and quickly personalize the packaging as well as the gift. Create your own custom wrapping paper, gift bags, or even fancy boxes. You can also use and make unique gift toppers. So, next time you are giving a special gift, forgo the expensive store-bought wrap and try one of these.

Ideas for Wrapping Your Gifts

• Reuse color pages from newspapers or even find a special news story to share, package the gift using that page, and highlight sections of the story you want to point out, using ordinary highlighters or transparent paint. You can also highlight words that appear on the newspaper that remind you of the gift's recipient.
• Small articles can be packaged using a page or two from a calendar. You can use a page from a specific month or the artwork.
• Cut a trap door into a 2-liter plastic soda bottle that has been washed and dried. Insert the gift along with shredded paper or tissue paper and glue or tape the trap door shut. You can also put some glitter, sequins, or shaped confetti in the bottle!
• How about packaging a gift using wallpaper? They come in larger pieces, fancy designs, and they are pretty strong!
• If you know someone who likes traveling or a child who is interested in geography, why not package their gift using a map.
• You can package almost all kinds of gifts by decorating plain butcher paper with paints, glitter or crayons.
• Colorful magazine pictures can be used for packaging small gifts.
• Create an exquisite packaging box for small articles by taping two inverted egg carton cups together.
• Small, paper lunch bags can be decorated using stickers, sequins, rhinestones, etc. You can also decorate these packages using small pieces of wrapping paper.
• Impress any parent or grandparent by packaging gifts for them using their kid’s or grandkid’s artwork.
• You can also use a printed toilet paper roll or printed tissue paper to wrap small items.
• Sew around 3 sides of two pieces of scrap fabric to create a small bag. Tie it closed with matching ribbon. You can also simply use a larger fabric scrap as you would wrapping paper.
• Cover or paint old shoe boxes or recycle gift boxes.
• Recycle food containers, such as potato chips or coffee cans, to package  gifts. You can use any container with lids just by cleaning it and decorating the outside!
• How about using heavy duty aluminum foil?
• For gift wrap that doubles as a second gift, try wrapping a present using a colorful towel. You can tie the ends together or fasten with clothespins or safety pins. 

Ideas for Gift Toppers

After you wrap your gifts using one of the ideas below, you can embellish it. This is a great way to personalize it to suit the personality of the gift recipient, to go along with the theme of the gift, or simply to dress up the package.

• You can simply have your child color or draw pictures.
• Decorate with stickers.
• Try making prints on the paper using rubberstamps, sponges, potatoes, hands, feet, and just about anything else!
• Tie it with ribbon, lace, rick-rack, or other typical fabric trim.
• Add a rustic flair by tying the package using twine, pine cones, tree sprigs, dry flowers or any ther items from nature.
• Cinnamon sticks tied onto the gift not only look fancy but smell wonderful!
• Decorate by gluing wrapped candies, such as mints or candy Kisses, dotted all over the package.
• Tie the gift up with a string of beads, buttons, popcorn, etc.

As you can tell, there are quite a few creative options! Pretty much all of these ideas are interchangeable so be create and experiment with what you have on hand.
